Arizona State (1-0) at Miami (1-0), Channel 2, 12:30 p.m.: If the UCLA-Texas game is a drag, switch over to this potential thriller, featuring last year’s Pacific 10 Conference champions against the Hurricanes in a game with national implications.
The Line: Miami by 9 1/2.
* West Virginia (2-0) at Boston College (0-1), ESPN, 9 a.m.: The Mountaineers have victories over Marshall and East Carolina. Boston College under first-year Coach Tom O’Brien became only the second team in Big East history to lose to Temple. Remember, BC, no wagering.
The Line: West Virginia by 6 1/2.
* Mississippi (2-0) at Auburn (1-0), ESPN2, 9:30 a.m.: Ole Miss is off probation and survived a first-week scare against Central Florida before dusting once-proud Southern Methodist; Auburn scored an important first-week victory against Virginia.
The Line: Auburn by 20.
* Pittsburgh (0-1) at Houston (0-2), Fox Sports West, noon: Time to grab a sandwich and a nap. Pitt is better under first-year Coach Walt Harris, but still lost to Penn State by 17 last week. Houston most recently was clobbered by California.
The Line: Houston by 3.
* Syracuse (1-2) at Virginia Tech (1-0), ESPN, 3 p.m.: Since defeating Wisconsin, Syracuse has lost two games on the last play to North Carolina State and Oklahoma. At Virginia Tech, Al Clark has stepped in nicely for Jim Druckenmiller, who stepped in for Steve Young.
The Line: Virginia Tech by 3.
* Stanford (1-0) at North Carolina (1-0), ESPN2, 3 p.m.: If you don’t have access, get to a sports bar. This is our cable Game of the Day. Both teams struggled in their openers, with Stanford giving San Jose State too much quarter while North Carolina quarterback Chris Keldorf’s had three interceptions in a victory over Indiana.
The Line: North Carolina by 13.
* Louisiana State (1-0) at Mississippi State (2-0), ESPN, 6 p.m.: An unexpected SEC showdown. LSU tailback Kevin Faulk has been slowed by a hamstring injury and isn’t expected to play. The Bulldogs, inspired by the drowning death of tailback Keefer McGee, are a great early-season story.
The Line: LSU by 11 1/2.
* Utah (1-1) at Texas Christian (0-1), ESPN2, 6 p.m.: Don’t pass up dinner and movie for this, but WAC games-by-candlelight have historically been zany and high scoring.
The Line: Utah by 4.
* Wyoming (1-1) at Hawaii (2-0), FSW2, 10 p.m.: Adults only. Last week, second half of Hawaii-Cal State Northridge was preempted by an adult movie channel. This week, if Wyoming is up big, Honolulu will preempt with “Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii.”
* The Line: Wyoming by 11.
