County Fair Highlights

The 75th annual Los Angeles County Fair will conclude Sunday at the Fairplex in Pomona. Horse races run through the weekend, with a first post time of 12:30 p.m. A sampling of weekend events:
Concerts--Grandstand Stage
* Pat Benatar, today
* The Isley Brothers, Saturday
* Los Mismos and Conjunto Primavera, Sunday
All grandstand seats are free with fair admission. Box and stage-level seats are $10, grandstand reserved seats are $6. All concerts begin at 8 p.m.
Celebration Stage--Plaza of the States
* Diamond Day Giveaway, today, 6:30 p.m.
* Elvis Presley impersonator Raymond Michaels, Friday through Sunday, 7 and 9 p.m.
* Father-Son Look-Alike Contest, Saturday, 8 p.m.
Contests, Special Events
* Today--Johnny Appleseed’s Birthday, America’s Kids Building, all day; Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assn. Wild West Show, horse show arena, noon & 6 p.m.; Mighty Beard and Macho Mustache Contest, Clock Tower Plaza, 7 p.m.
* Saturday--Wheelin’ Down the Road Parade, Broadway and Palm, noon; 14th Annual Weber Barbecue Cookoff, Court of the Redwoods, 2 p.m.; American International Sheep Shearing Contest finals, Ring 1, 7 p.m.
* Sunday--Bluegrass band competition, Heritage Farm, noon; Lego Contest, America’s Kids Building, 1 p.m.; Alien Look-Alike Contest, Good Music Stage, 3 p.m.; Spinning Contest, Ring 3, 4 p.m.
Fireworks--Nightly, 10 p.m.
Fair Hours: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday; 9 a.m.-10.p.m. Sunday.
Admission: General adult, $9; children 6-12, $5; over 60, $7; carnival wristband (unlimited rides) Monday-Friday, $16.
Parking: General, $5; preferred, $7; premium preferred (hotel lot only) $10; valet, $10.
