Buena Cruises Past Rio Mesa

Renae Hofmann scored 11 of her game-high 24 points in the third quarter and the Buena High girls’ basketball team went on to a 75-36 victory over Rio Mesa in a Channel League game Thursday night at Rio Mesa.
Hofmann hit four three-point shots to help the Bulldogs take control of the game from the outside. Buena (20-1, 11-0), the top-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll, made seven three-pointers in the second quarter, turning an 11-8 edge after the first period into a 39-21 halftime advantage.
Karla Kanongata’a and Kyelynn Chiong were the only players to score in the second quarter for Rio Mesa (10-11, 4-7). Kanongata’a finished with 17 points and Chiong added eight.
In other girls’ basketball games:
Oxnard 43, San Marcos 29--Yolanda Demby had 11 points and 12 rebounds for host Oxnard (6-15, 4-7) in the Channel League game.
Palmdale 54, Antelope Valley 40--Summer Hoban scored 24 points and fellow junior Vanetta Lanier had 20 for Palmdale in the Golden League game at Antelope Valley.
The victory was the 38th consecutive in league for the Falcons (13-11, 8-0) and clinched a tie for the league title. They can win their fourth consecutive outright title with a victory over Littlerock on Tuesday.
Highland 63, Quartz Hill 34--Mae Bidaure and Tiffany Winkfield combined to score 17 of Highland’s 18 points in the second quarter and the Bulldogs (16-5, 6-2) pulled away to win a Golden League game at Highland.
Louisville 51, Chaminade 29--Sarah Kelso scored 11 points and Kari Crawley had nine steals and six assists to go with six points for Louisville in a Mission League game at Chaminade.
Chantal Kazay grabbed 14 rebounds for Louisville (15-4, 4-4).
Nordhoff 72, Calabasas 46--Christen Roper had 22 points, 18 rebounds and seven blocked shots for Nordhoff (17-5, 6-1) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas (9-9, 3-4).
Erin Barker scored 18 points, and Nell Becker contributed 15 points and seven steals for Nordhoff.
L.A. Baptist 40, Marshall 25--Liza Park scored scored seven of her nine points in the first quarter, when L.A. Baptist jumped out to an 11-0 advantage in an Alpha League game at L.A. Baptist.
Ali Morrow had a team-high 13 points and Kelly Feirfeil added eight points for L.A. Baptist (6-13, 3-3).
St. Bonaventure 62, Fillmore 51--Amy Rosario scored 14 points and three players each scored 10 for St. Bonaventure (13-7, 6-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.
Melanie Schrock scored 14 points for Fillmore (10-12, 2-6) , and the two teams combined for 47 fouls.
Bell-Jeff 58, Mary Star 26--Stacy Cobb scored 11 of her 17 points for host Bell-Jeff (13-10, 8-0) in a Camino Real League game.
BOYS
Nordhoff 70, Calabasas 64--Huton Ghoreishi’s 21 points and Jason Miller’s 20 weren’t enough for the Coyotes (11-11, 3-4) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.
Andy Flores had 17 points for Nordhoff (9-11, 2-5).
Sherman Oaks CES 55, USC-MAST 33--Sinclair Brown and Lawrence Lowe combined to score 14 of 18 third-quarter points for Sherman Oaks CES (6-12, 5-2) in a Magnet Conference game.
