Matadors Continue Baseball Run

Darren Dyt’s bases-loaded double scored Eric Horvat and Marco Estrada in the seventh inning to give Cal State Northridge a 12-11 baseball victory over Cal State Sacramento on Thursday at Northridge.
The Matadors have won three games in as many days and seven of nine.
Dyt, whose double broke a 10-10 tie, had three hits with three runs batted in and Adrian Mendoza hit his sixth home run in a five-run fourth inning for the Matadors (8-6).
Jose Vasquez (2-2) allowed an unearned run in 1 1/3 innings of relief and Brad Foss recorded his fifth save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Pierce 6, Moorpark 1--Barry Zito (1-0) pitched a five-hitter for the Brahmas (2-2) in the Mt. SAC tournament at Pierce College.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Canyons 98, Pierce 35--The Cougars scored 38 points in the last five minutes of a Western State Conference South Division game at Pierce (7-19, 2-7).
Maxine Unverferth had 33 points and 10 rebounds, and Wendy Gussner added 22 points, six assists and eight steals for Canyons (23-7, 9-0 in conference play).
CS Northridge 73, Eastern Washington 57--Edniesha Curry had 15 points and seven assists and Tammie Mills added 15 points and six steals for the Matadors in a Big Sky Conference game at Cheney, Wash.
Myesha Saleem had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Northridge (11-10, 7-4).
WOMEN’S TRACK
Moorpark 135, Glendale 26, Valley 14, Hancock 7--Dolores Tuimoloau of Moorpark, 1994 state champion for Channel Islands High, won the shotput with a school record of 44-2 1/2 and the discus at 122-10 in a WSC opener.
MEN’S TRACK
Moorpark 107, Glendale 33, Hancock 24, Valley 23--Moses Backus won the 200 meters in 22.1 seconds and the 400 in 51.6 for Moorpark in a WSC opener.
