It Was Raining Threes for Two Shooting Stars

Eleven has become a lucky number for J.T. Stotts of Hart High and Frank Vasquez of L.A. Baptist. On Thursday night, each made 11 three-point shots in a game.
“It was amazing,” said Stotts, a 5-foot-10 senior guard who scored a career-high 42 points as Hart won the Foothill League championship with an 87-69 victory over Valencia in Newhall.
Stotts made 11 of 15 shots from three-point range.
Vasquez, a 5-6 senior guard, broke his school record by scoring 50 points in L.A. Baptist’s 88-66 Alpha League victory over Frazier Mountain. He made 11 of 13 three-point shots.
“He’s as good a shooter as you’re going to find,” L.A. Baptist Coach Bob Chevalier said.
As impressive as making 11 three-point baskets sounds, it is nowhere near the Southern Section record.
In fact, Stotts and Vasquez combined had one more than the Southern Section and state record for three-point baskets in a game.
Chad Bickley of Santa Maria Valley Christian set the standard in 1994 with 21 three-pointers against Sacramento Citadel. He scored 79 points in the game.
