Vandalism Causes Brief Outage in Pacoima

PACOIMA — Some 7,700 residents were left without electricity for a short time Saturday afternoon after a power station was damaged by vandalism, Department of Water and Power officials said.
An iron bar was tossed into electrical equipment at a substation in the 9000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard about 1:15 p.m., DWP spokeswoman Treva Miller said. The bar caused several circuits to short out.
Power to half the customers was restored within two minutes, Miller said. The rest had to wait until 2:30 p.m.
