Bachelor Pads Diablos’ Tennis Victory

Eric Bachelor convincingly swept his singles sets to lead Mission Viejo to a 14-4 victory over Laguna Beach in a nonleague boys’ tennis match Friday at Mission Viejo.
Bachelor won his sets, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, and Jerome Gfeller swept his, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, for the Diablos (5-0). Mission Viejo also won eight of nine doubles sets against the Artists (0-4).
In other nonleague boys’ tennis:
Bolsa Grande 12, La Habra Whittier Christian 6--Thai Le and Daniel Lee pulled out a 7-6 (9-7) doubles victory for Bolsa Grande (2-3).
Canyon 15, Loara 3--Freshman John Nguyen remained undefeated for Canyon (4-0) by sweeping his sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. Loara is 1-5.
Esperanza 12, Foothill 6--Tom Lloyd swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, to improve his record to 18-0 on the season for Esperanza (6-0).
Fullerton 15, Valencia 6--Justin White and Brian Johnson swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-4, for visiting Fullerton (5-0).
In the Brea Olinda softball tournament:
Orange 10, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 2--Kimi Boyce (3-1) pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts in a consolation victory for Orange (3-2).
In nonleague softball:
Anaheim 6, Laguna Beach 2--Cami Degeus and Kate Palfreyman each had two hits for Laguna Beach (1-2). Anaheim improves to 1-1.
Los Amigos 5, Newport Harbor 0--Elise Burke hit a home run in the top of the fourth to give Los Amigos a 1-0 lead. The Lobos (4-0) added four runs in the seventh on three singles, a double and two stolen bases. Newport Harbor is 1-1.
Mater Dei 4-0, Clovis 0-2--In the first game, Mater Dei’s Marissa Young struck out 20 and walked two in a two-hit effort against Clovis, the two-time Central Section champions. Jodi Schicker and Kelsey Kollen each had two hits in the first game for Mater Dei (3-1).
Orange Lutheran 8, Bolsa Grande 0--Laura Miklos threw a one-hitter for Orange Lutheran (3-2). She struck out 15 and walked three. Nicole Sandberg’s homer with one on in the third gave Orange Lutheran a 6-0 lead.
Villa Park 6, Loara 4--Tina McCarty had a triple and three RBIs for Villa Park (3-2-1). The Spartans came back from a 4-0 deficit with a six-run sixth inning.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Esperanza 3, El Dorado 0--Justin Sudduth led Esperanza (3-1) with nine kills and two aces in the 15-6, 15-9, 15-10 victory. El Dorado is 3-1.
Loara 3, Brethren Christian 2--Loara (2-2) pulled out a 15-11, 8-15, 8-15, 19-17, 15-12 victory in a match that lasted 3 1/2 hours. Martin Banda recorded 23 blocks and Mike Eshelman had 31 kills for Loara.
Valencia 3, Villa Park 1--Mark Fiamengo had 15 kills and Danny Ortega and Brian Bartczak each had 14 for Valencia (5-1), which won, 15-13, 15-11, 14-16, 15-8.
