District Makes Bid to Reopen Stadium Talks

With a key figure back at the negotiating table, the City Council on Monday will consider reopening talks with the South Orange County Community College District over building a baseball stadium at Saddleback College.
In a letter received by the city Thursday, district officials said they hired retired Chancellor Robert A. Lombardi, previously involved in the negotiations, to help with the talks.
The city last week halted negotiations over a long-term lease, contending that the district was seeking costly demands after about 18 months of negotiations.
“I’m going to bring [the letter] to the council,” City Manager Dan Joseph said, “to see if they have any reaction.”
The impasse in the negotiations over the stadium has cast doubt on the future of the Mission Viejo Vigilantes minor league baseball team, which has been playing on a temporary field at Saddleback College.
