Military Retirees to Aid Youth Shelter

A group of retired military officers will donate clothing, food, supplies, money and their time to the Casa Youth Shelter, which helps children and teens in crises.
The Long Beach chapter of the Retired Officers Assn. recently partnered with the shelter because service men and women once were stationed in great numbers at bases in Long Beach, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach, said Gena Evans, a shelter spokeswoman.
“We’ve had a lot of military kids when the military was a big presence here,” Evans said. “They wanted to say ‘Thank you’ back.”
The shelter has housed 8,000 children since opening 20 years ago.
