Air Quality Is Focus of Meeting Tonight

The South Coast Air Quality Management District will hold a town meeting in Pacoima today to discuss local air quality issues.
A question-and-answer session will follow a brief presentation.
“The AQMD has these meetings throughout the four-county area so people know we are here to answer any concerns or problems,” district spokeswoman Claudia Keith said.
About 65% of the complaints the district receives concern foul odors. “The areas that complain most are either communities located near a refinery or a highly industrial area,” Keith said.
Starting in June, the AQMD will begin monitoring “toxic hot spots,” or areas where pollutants frequently collect.
Portable monitors will be placed in various parts of the four-county district, including one in Pacoima.
Today’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Pacoima Senior Center, 11300 Glenoaks Blvd.
