Re “Teacher’s Plea Leads to Day at the Opera,” Nov. 16: The efforts of Hendricus Struijk deserve great recognition. All 31 fifth-graders will be positively impressed by the production of “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” no doubt.

As a former Vermont Elementary student, I was very anxious to absorb all of the cultural benefits that field trips offer. Largely because of the efforts of teachers like Struijk and humanitarians such as actress Lauren Libaw, these students will begin a tradition of attending such events outside of the classroom sphere.

It gives me great joy to know that the community can come together to help avail students of valuable experiences such as this.
