A 52-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck by a car and killed Sunday evening, police said.
The 7:55 p.m. accident happened just as Dale Sizemore of Ventura rode his bike into the intersection of Telephone Road and Main Street, said Cpl. John Turner of the Ventura Police Department.
The driver, Lawrina Abramovitch, 35, also of Ventura, told police she was traveling westbound on Telephone Road when her car broadsided Sizemore, throwing him several feet down Main Street, Turner said.
Witnesses said Sizemore rode through a red light at the intersection. He was not wearing a helmet and his bike was not equipped with reflectors, Turner said.
Sizemore was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he died of severe head trauma, coroner officials said.
Police asked any witnesses to call (805) 339-4435.
