Bowman Returns to Detroit

Scotty Bowman, the winningest coach in NHL history, will return to the Detroit Red Wing bench on Thursday.
The team said Bowman, 65, received a clean bill of health from his doctor after undergoing 10 hours of testing on Friday. Bowman underwent an angioplasty in July to clear a blocked artery and had his left knee replaced in August.
The Edmonton Oilers re-signed free agent center Doug Weight to a two-year contract. . . . The International Hockey League’s Utah Grizzlies signed holdout New Jersey Devil defenseman Scott Niedermayer to a 25-game contract. . . . Montreal Canadien right wing Turner Stevenson was suspended for two games and fined $1,000 for throwing an elbow to the face of Buffalo forward Dixon Ward on Saturday. . . . Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Stephane Richer could be out four weeks after undergoing surgery to remove scar tissue from his right ankle. . . . The Philadelphia Flyers traded right wing Trent Klatt to the Vancouver Canucks for a sixth-round draft pick in 2000.
