Leagues Proposed for City Schools

Sylmar High would join a league made up of Kennedy, Monroe, Reseda, Van Nuys and San Fernando under a City Section releaguing proposal that would take effect in the 1999-2000 school year.
A town hall meeting will take place Nov. 17 at the Los Angeles Unified School District Board room to discuss the proposal. A final draft will be voted on by the Interscholastic Athletic Committee on Dec. 7.
Another league proposal groups Birmingham, Chatsworth, Cleveland, El Camino Real, Granada Hills and Taft. The other Valley league would be made up of Canoga Park, Grant, Hollywood, North Hollywood, Poly and Verdugo Hills.
The leagues would be for all sports, boys and girls.
SOCCER
Key transfer: Cameron Damwijk, a top player for Kennedy last season as a junior, has transferred to Granada Hills. Damwijk started at goalie two seasons ago and played goalie and sweeper last season.
Coming back: Sara Deckers, a standout goalkeeper who last October withdrew from Harvard-Westlake after violating school rules and enrolled at Hart, has again enrolled at Harvard-Westlake and will play for the Wolverines this season, Coach Ned Smith said.
Deckers, a junior, was the Mission League goalkeeper of the year as a freshman.
BASEBALL
New coaches: Jay Chadwick has been selected baseball coach at Glendale High, replacing Tony Zarrillo. . . . Maury Cauchon has taken over as coach at Quartz Hill, replacing Dave Stradling.
