One of three defendants convicted of killing KPFK radio personality Michael Taylor has been sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison for his role in the murder.
Shawn Alexander had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and kidnapping in Taylor’s death.
Taylor, 45, was an activist noted for his controversial views on issues such as homelessness and civil rights. He was found shot to death April 23, 1995, in South-Central Los Angeles.
Alexander was convicted for his role in the killing over an attempt to take some of Taylor’s radio equipment.
Two other men, Andrew Lancaster and Jornay Rodriguez, were also convicted in the killing.
Lancaster was found guilty July 16 of first-degree murder and kidnapping. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 17. A Los Angeles jury recommended the death penalty for Lancaster when it handed down the verdict.
Rodriguez, who pleaded no contest to murder charges, is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday.
Prosecutors say the three kidnapped Taylor, and Lancaster tied him and shot him in an extortion attempt over radio equipment.
