Doubt Doesn’t Have to Undermine Faith

Excerpts from sermons to be delivered around Orange County on Sunday:

DOUBTING THOMAS: “It is hard to imagine any person [who has] the remotest concern for the Christian cause missing the celebration of Easter. Yet the Bible gives a precedent for this in the case of Thomas, one of the closest followers of Jesus, who failed to be present when the disciples gathered on Easter evening. While history calls Thomas ‘the doubter,’ . . . he stands as eternal proof that a questioning, probing, even doubting mind can find answers.”

GOOD NEWS: “The gospel doesn’t say, ‘You gotta believe this or that.’ The gospel says, ‘Friends, I have some good news. We don’t have to live this way anymore!’ The life of the church becomes a dance of freedom, a sign to the world: ‘You don’t have to live this way anymore!’ ”
