Paul Haynes, a four-year resident, has announced that he is running against incumbent Maureen Aschoff for a place on the Orange Unified School District board. Haynes, an assistant funeral director whose daughter graduated from Orange High School last year, said he wants to speak for the average person. “I don’t have a political background,” Haynes said. “I saw in the paper that no one was opposing the incumbents, so I felt that someone should.” Haynes said he is particularly concerned with school overcrowding and “making sure that kids that do graduate from high school at least know the basics of how to read and write.”
This year’s elections are the first in at least 10 years in which more than one incumbent is running unopposed.
