Gledhill’s Courtship Over at Taft

The great basketball experiment at Taft High is over.
Mike Gledhill, City player of the year in volleyball, quit the basketball team after only four games.
The 6-6 Gledhill played basketball as a freshman, gave up the sport, then decided to return this season. He never made the starting lineup and will focus on volleyball.
Without Gledhill, Taft is 6-1.

Football season is over but Ray Cassaday is still throwing his body around.
Cassaday, Valencia High fullback-linebacker who has committed to UCLA, has joined the Vikings’ basketball team.
“He’s a competitor,” said Coach Gary Spindt of Valencia. “I like that. We need a guy like that.”
Manuel White, who rushed for over 6,500 yards in his career, might not play basketball. One thing is for certain--he’s wanted.
“If he comes out, we’ll take him,” Spindt said.
