Temporary Morgue Is Closed at EgyptAir Crash Salvage Site

From Associated Press

Human remains from the crash of EgyptAir Flight 990 have been moved from a temporary morgue to a permanent facility run by Rhode Island’s medical examiner.

The morgue, set up at an abandoned gymnasium at Quonset Point in North Kingstown, has been closed, and remains will now be examined in Providence, Dr. Elizabeth Laposata said Thursday.

A federal official involved in the investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that no remains have been identified and that the process is on hold until early next year. A forensic team will try to use dental records, fingerprints and DNA tests to identify the victims.

It is unclear whether any more salvage will be done at the crash site, about 60 miles south of the Massachusetts island of Nantucket, where the Boeing 767 went down Oct. 31, killing all 217 people aboard.
