GoodNoise Signs Band to Online Deal

Bolstering the legitimacy of online record companies, Palo Alto-based GoodNoise Corp. has signed a deal with quirky rock act They Might Be Giants to sell some of the band’s back-catalog and 15 new tracks as an MP3-only album. All of the music, which includes albums the band owns the rights to, will be distributed in MP3, a controversial compression technology. The band, which hit its commercial peak in 1990, has maintained a strong cult following on the Net. Signed to Elektra Records until 1997, the band does not have a recording deal with an offline music company.
