Six Congolese Red Cross volunteers were killed in the same area where hundreds of civilians were reportedly slain in a rebel massacre, the International Committee of the Red Cross said. The workers were slaughtered in the village of Makobola, nine miles south of the town of Uvira, spokeswoman Nina Galbe said. She did not know if they were killed in the alleged massacre or in another incident. The Rome-based Roman Catholic Missionary News Service said insurgents fighting to oust President Laurent Kabila carried out the massacre on or shortly before Jan. 1.
