Pina Scores 25, but SCC Falls to Azusa Pacific

Southern California College came back from a poor first half but was unable to catch Azusa Pacific, which won, 78-72, in Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday at Azusa Pacific.
Amee Pina had 25 points, including seven three-pointers, four assist and three steals for SCC (11-6, 0-1). The Vanguards were down, 43-27, at the half.
Kelly Speas had 21 points for Azusa (11-4, 1-0).
Biola 65, Concordia 53--Jaime Gast had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Concordia (6-7, 0-1), which was outscored by 18 points in the second half.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Azusa Pacific 87, Southern California College 67--Azusa Pacific jumped to a 59-28 lead by halftime. Forward Kevin Daley scored 28 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the field and added nine rebounds for Azusa Pacific (14-2, 1-0).
Jabari Simmons scored 27 for SCC (5-13, 0-1). Dennis Keane added 19 for SCC.
In nonconference men’s volleyball:
La Verne 3, UC Irvine 2--UC Irvine won the first two games, 15-7, 16-14, but lost the next three, 15-12, 15-10, 16-14. Donnie Rafter had 37 kills and 16 digs for the Anteaters (0-3).
