COSTA MESA

A grass-roots group is seeking nonprofit status to raise funds for construction of a stadium at Estancia High School and a pool at Costa Mesa High. At a recent Newport-Mesa Unified School District board meeting, the Capital Facilities Committee asked trustees to hire a firm to study the projects’ environmental impact.
The district would pay for the study out of $500,000 earmarked for engineering of the projects, which also include a smaller stadium at Costa Mesa and playing fields at Estancia.
When the environmental study is completed, fund-raising will begin for the $5 million needed. First to be built are the 50-meter pool at Costa Mesa and the 2,500-seat stadium at Estancia. Each will cost $2 million.
