LINCOLN HEIGHTS — An argument between neighbors over a man’s dogs led to his arrest on suspicion of firing shots at responding officers, police said Wednesday.
The incident began when James Olsen, 45, went to his neighbors’ home at about 11 p.m. Tuesday because he thought they had reported his dogs to Animal Control authorities, police Sgt. Tony Silva said.
“It is believed he had up to 10 dogs,” Silva said.
After arguing with the neighbors, Olsen left. Moments later, they heard gunfire and called police, Silva said.
When officers arrived at Olsen’s home in the 3400 block of Manitou Avenue, the porch lights came on and shots were fired from the house in their direction, LAPD spokesman Willie Guerrero said. A woman and child who were on the porch were not injured.
Officers persuaded Olsen to surrender, Silva said. He was was booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer.
In his home, police found a carbine rifle that is believed to be the gun used. Officers said they also found several other guns and a assault rifle.
Olsen’s dogs were taken by animal control officials.
