Bacterial Levels at Keys Acceptable

Warning signs posted at several spots around the Ventura Keys were removed Wednesday after testing revealed bacterial levels in the water were acceptable after a 900-gallon sewage spill earlier this week.
The untreated effluent was discharged Monday into a storm drain near Arundell Circle, county officials said. The sewage traveled from the storm drain to the Arundell Barranca and then to Ventura Harbor.
Initial testing Monday showed the water was full of pollutants, officials said.
Water samples taken Tuesday and Wednesday at the outfall of the barranca and at Marina Park boat docks indicate bacteria levels are within acceptable limits, said Elizabeth Huff of the county’s Environmental Health Division.
