Nearly 44 million people watched President Clinton’s State of the Union address on the four major networks and three all-news cable channels, a substantial decline in audience from last year, based on projections by Nielsen Media Research.
Viewing surged a year ago to the highest level since the first year of Clinton’s presidency, fueled by the allegations surrounding his relationship with former White House intern Monica S. Lewinsky.
