A $6.4-million settlement was signed Thursday by attorneys representing eight former residents of Via Estoril estates, who lost their homes in a mudslide last year, and developers J.M. Peters and Hon Development, an attorney for the homeowners said. The lawsuit against the developers was filed in 1996, two years before the landslide nearly leveled the homes. According to the suit, residents complained about problems on the property, including shifting and cracked walls.
