Fullerton Rallies, Wins in Water Polo

Fullerton rallied with four goals in the fourth quarter and sophomore Breeze Alcantara scored in overtime to complete the comeback for the Indians, who defeated Sunny Hills, 10-9, in a nonleague girls’ water polo game Thursday at Fullerton.
Freshman goaltender Amber Lohstroh had 15 saves and six steals for the Indians (9-2, 3-3). Fullerton’s Megan Snow scored with 45 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
In other nonleague water polo:
Saddleback 9, Orange 8--Senior Agnes Canska scored off a pass from Angelica Romeo with 15 seconds left to seal the victory for Saddleback. Orange’s Courtney Zolly scored six goals for the Panthers.
In Express League boys’ basketball:
Heritage Christian 52, Pioneer Baptist 41--Junior Matt Winter led all scorers with 22 points and Matt Williams had 14 rebounds for Heritage Christian (12-8, 5-0). Brett Cwierz led Pioneer Baptist (12-3, 2-3) with 13.
In Freeway League boys’ soccer:
Fullerton 2, Sunny Hills 0--Fernando Estrada scored in the 14th minute and Noe Nava scored in the 43rd minute for Fullerton (7-8-2, 3-2-1). Aaron McCann made six saves for his third league shutout and sixth overall. Sunny Hills is 2-14-2, 0-5-1.
Sonora 1, Buena Park 1--Scott White’s first-half goal for Sonora (6-5-5, 2-1-3) did not hold up as Jesus Cuevas’ second-half score tied it for host Buena Park (11-7-1, 5-0-1).
In Empire League wrestling:
No. 3 Loara 50, El Dorado 9--Joseph Nguyen (145 pounds) earned a pin in 43 seconds, Jeremy Ellis (171) earned a major decision, 12-4, and Joe Ellis (189) won, 4-2, to lead Loara (8-0, 4-0), which lost only two matches. Heavyweight Jose Hernandez won, 3-1, and Orlando Galvan won, 17-2, at 112 pounds for the Saxons.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago 71, Bolsa Grande 9--Joe Bonilla recorded a 19-second pin in the heavyweight division for host Santiago (29-7, 5-0). In the Golden West League:
No. 1 Santa Ana 50, Saddleback 18--Vince Aldana (103 pounds), Erik Salazar (112), Jose Najara (119), Jose Leon (125) and Gilbert Melendez (130) won by technical falls for Santa Ana (10-0, 4-0).Saddleback drops to 17-5, 3-1.
In the Pacific Coast League:
University 60, Costa Mesa 16--University’s Francisco Gamboa, ranked third in the county at 189 pounds, earned his 28th pin of the season in 1:29 to improve to 33-0. Daniel Kang moved up a weight class to 125 pounds and earned his 21st pin of the season for University (18-16, 2-1).
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 48, Corona del Mar 34--Corona del Mar forfeited eight matches, but managed to get four pins, including one by sophomore Anthony Trankiem, who won his 135-pound match against Mark Sickmeier, 14-6. El Toro is 3-1 in league. Corona del Mar is 1-3.
Santa Margarita 39, Woodbridge 27--Santa Margarita junior Matt Erbst pinned Chris Imkamp in the 152-pound match.
