This is the last month this season to see Orion, the most prominent constellation in the winter sky. Orion is due south at sunset, and by the time the sky is dark Orion is slipping toward the horizon. At 9 p.m., Orion is one-third of the way up the southwestern sky. He sets by midnight. His two hunting dogs, Canis Minor and Canis Major, follow him and set an hour later.
