This week, the Monterey Bay Aquarium opens what it bills as the world’s first major exhibit of live deep-sea animals, many on display for the first time at any aquarium. “Mysteries of the Deep” focuses on the Monterey submarine canyon, a chasm offshore from the California aquarium that is more than two miles deep. The exhibit will open Saturday with more than 300 animals from 45 species, collected from waters as deep as 3,300 feet. It ends Jan. 6, 2002. Aquarium admission is $15.95 adults, $6.95-$11.95 children; advance tickets are recommended for weekends and holidays. Call (831) 648-4888.
