Parades Predominate on St. Patrick’s Day

Led by actress Maureen O’Hara, the 238th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade filled New York City’s Fifth Avenue with about 200,000 marchers and thousands of cheering spectators. The Irish-born O’Hara, the parade’s grand marshal, celebrated the Irish connection “that I feel so strongly in the United States.” Boston held its parade on Sunday, but government workers got Wednesday off to celebrate the British leaving Boston Harbor in 1775 and Loyalists fleeing the city. Revelers also crowded downtown Kansas City, Mo., and Savannah, Ga.
