Jackson, Stampley Help Sea Kings in Three-Game Volleyball Victory

Outside hitter Mike Jackson had 13 kills to help Corona del Mar to a three-game victory over visiting Fountain Valley in nonleague boys’ volleyball Wednesday.
Sea Kings’ Greg Stampley had 12 kills in the 15-7, 15-13, 15-13 victory.
Brad Keenan led Fountain Valley with 20 kills and seven blocks. Corona del Mar, ranked second in the county’s preseason poll, is 2-1. Fountain Valley, ranked sixth, is 0-3.
In another nonleague match:
Costa Mesa 3, Saddleback 0--B.J. Lightvoet had 17 kills and Shaun Ferryman had 11 kills for Costa Mesa (4-0) in its 15-3, 15-9, 15-5 win.
In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:
Bolsa Grande 3, Pacifica 2--Jon James had 29 kills to lead host Bolsa Grande (3-1, 1-0) to the 15-7, 9-15, 15-9, 8-15, 15-12 victory.
La Quinta 3, Santiago 0--Ming Li led host La Quinta (3-3) with eleven kills in the 15-9, 15-10, 15-7 victory. Kololo Leauasoga had 12 kills for Santiago (1-4).
In nonleague baseball:
Corona del Mar 8, Redondo Beach Redondo Union 5--Ty Harper led off the bottom of the first with a home run for the Sea Kings, and Mark Hatfield drove in Eric Wiethorn with a two-run shot to lead Corona del Mar (3-2).
Santiago 9, Laguna Beach 1--Brian Pilkington (1-1) struck out 18 and walked one for Santiago (2-2). Jose Mejia went three for four with a home run and three RBIs.
In nonleague golf:
Cypress 215, Tustin 219--Defending Empire League champion William Hulse shot one-over-par 36 to medal for Cypress (1-2) at Lakewood Country Club.
El Modena 421, Valencia 461--Freshman Ed McGlasson shot three-over par at Alta Vista and at Green River to medal for El Modena (4-0). He finished with a six-over 79.
Katella 227, Garden Grove 243--Pete Fournier shot six-over 42 and Carlos Collier finished with a 43 to lead Katella (4-1-1) at Anaheim Hills.
Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 417, Edison 421--Kelly Wicks shot 81 and Brock Noteboom 82 for the Chargers (2-1) in the split match at SeaCliff Country Club and Chester Washington Golf Course.
San Clemente 384, Corona del Mar 407--Austin Berger medaled, shooting one-over 72 to lead San Clemente (4-0). Corona del Mar falls to 2-2.
Western 430, Cerritos Gahr 436--Braxton Cates shot eight-over 78 to lead Western at Los Coyotes and La Mirada.
In nonleague softball:
Sunny Hills 1, Orange 0--Freshman Shannon Deutschman (1-1) pitched a no-hitter for host Sunny Hills (3-2), picking up her first high school victory. Deutschman struck out seven, and led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. She was lifted for pinch runner Megan Broschak, who was then sacrificed to second. Lori Jarman singled in Broschak to win it.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Troy 111, Valencia 49--Mary Haynes (200 freestyle, 200 individual medley) and Shelly Burmaz (100 backstroke, 500 freestyle) each won two events for the Warriors (3-0).
Cypress 124, Magnolia 37--Valerie Cleland, Kristin McCoy and Neisha Hoagland each won two individual and two relays for Cypress (1-1).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Troy 103, Valencia 44--Ryan Sauchelli won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and Brandon Secrest won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly for the Warriors (3-0).
Cypress 98, Magnolia 67--Andrew Shrader won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay for Cypress (2-0).
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
La Mirada 9, Sonora 9 (La Mirada wins in games, 80-79)--Adrish Wurts and doubles team Fred Grether and Jordan Green won two sets for Sonora (3-3-1).
Sunny Hills 12, Diamond Bar 6--Raj Vyas and Davin Lin won in No. 1 doubles for Sunny Hills, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.
In nonleague boys’ track and field:
Corona del Mar 69, Fountain Valley 67--Josh Yelsey and Sean Fenton were double winners for Corona del Mar (2-0). Yelsey won the 1,600 in 4 minutes 40 seconds and the 3,200 in 10:13. Fenton won the shot put at 46-9 and the discus (130-6).
Dana Hills 85, Laguna Hills 50--Tommy Boas won the 100 (11.58) and 200 (23.47) for the Dolphins (2-0). Casey O’Brien won the shot put and discus for Dana Hills.
In nonleague girls’ track and field:
Fountain Valley 74, Corona del Mar 61--Liz Morse ran a Southern Section qualifying time of 2:19 in the 800 for Corona del Mar (1-1). Jenny Cummins also qualified in the 400 with 1:02.3 for the Sea Kings. Teammate Katie Quinlan’s second-place finish of 11:53 in the 3,200 also qualifies for Southern Section.
Laguna Hills 71, Dana Hills 65--Lindsay Balzhiser (300 hurdles, long jump and triple jump) won three events for Laguna Hills.
