About 125 city employees and community members urged the City Council recently to provide medical benefits to all 560 part-time city employees. City staff has been negotiating an undisclosed wage offer with the Service Employees International Local 347 since October, but the employees also are seeking such benefits as overtime and sick pay. The employees, who average 20 to 30 hours of work a week, include crossing guards, after-school program counselors, and staffers with recreation, youth and teen, family, senior citizen, sports and court referral programs.
