USC Women Defeat UCLA

DAVIS, Calif. — The No. 1-ranked USC women’s water polo team defeated fourth-ranked and three-time defending champion UCLA, 5-4, in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament Saturday.
The Trojans, seeking their first national title, will play No. 2 Stanford today in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. Stanford advanced with a 6-5 victory over No. 3 California.
Freshman Sandra Milicev scored two goals for the Trojans in their victory over UCLA. Her second, with 1:47 to play in the third quarter, gave USC a 5-3 lead.
UCLA freshman Elaine Zivich scored to make the score 5-4 with 2:22 left, but the USC defense forced two turnovers and goaltender Bernice Orwig blocked a long shot at the buzzer.
Shelli Linza, Nina Wengst and Kellie Clarke also scored for USC.
