* Re “Gay Catholics Protest Funding of Initiative,” Nov. 19: It’s not surprising that the church has taken the anti-gay stance that it has on the Knight ballot initiative. What I find grotesquely unjust is that the Catholic Church can be used as a tax shelter for right-wing political contributions.
My contributions to No on Knight Campaign are completely taxable, and yet churches are allowed to spend 10% to 15% of their funds on political contributions in support of this odious initiative. Churches should have to pay tax on every penny they spend in trying to influence the law, just as individuals or corporations do.
