La Mirada running back Mike Lemon, who rushed for 34 touchdowns as a junior, broke a leg on the fourth play of the season. His primary blocker, junior fullback Chris Rudiger (6-2, 230 pounds) moved into the I-back slot, where he has averaged 8.7 yards a carry. It’s a young Matador team with just a couple of senior starters, including quarterback Chris Cox, who has completed 66 of 120 attempts. Another senior, offensive guard/defensive tackle Vince Feula is being heavily recruited. Kennedy’s passing combination of Geoff Etherson to Steve Yaden is one of the best in the division.
