Giles Makes All the Difference in Concordia’s Comeback Win

Concordia erased a three-point first-half deficit to defeat St. Thomas, 78-76, in the Bill Spassoff Memorial men’s basketball tournament Saturday at Concordia.
Guard Josh Giles scored 24 points for Concordia (3-1), including four three-pointers.
Mark Buri led St. Thomas (1-1) with 15 points, including three three-pointers.
In the Chapman men’s basketball tournament:
Chapman 79, Southwestern 48--Mike Gartner led all scorers with 15 points for Chapman (5-0). Teammate David Neal added 12 points and Nate Strange had eight rebounds.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Vanguard 66, Pacific 62--Dennis Keane scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds for Vanguard, which led Pacific (2-1) by four points at halftime. Brandon Cablay added 16 points and Kemmy Burgess scored 10 for the Lions.
In the Vanguard Thanksgiving women’s basketball tournament:
Concordia 69, Bethany College 45--Jamie Gast scored 22 points and Taryn Commins had 16 rebounds and 17 points for Concordia (6-0).
Vanguard 92, Patten 42--All-tournament players Laura Lee (22 points) and Becki Huddle (21 points, six assists) led Vanguard (5-1), which scored 21 unanswered points in the second half. Patten is 1-3.
