A Longs drugstore was robbed Saturday morning by an armed man and his accomplice who both fled in a stolen van, authorities said.
The robbery occurred shortly after 11 a.m. in the 2100 block of Newbury Road, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. No one was injured and the van was found abandoned at a nearby motel.
According to deputies, the 39-year-old day manager of the Longs was standing at the front of the store when one of the robbers walked up, displayed a handgun tucked in his waist and ordered him to open the safe.
Both robbers then stuffed cash from the safe into plastic shopping bags and fled. Deputies refused to say how much money was taken.
The van was stolen Friday from a local Chevrolet dealership as it was being unloaded from a transport truck, authorities said.
