* Seminis Inc. in Oxnard has announced two appointments to senior management positions.

Henk van Wielink was named senior vice president and general manager of operations.

He has worked with Seminis and its predecessor companies in sales, production, operations, logistics and general management since 1972.

Van Wielink replaces James H. Hulbert, who is leaving to become president of another company.

Oscar Velasco was named senior vice president of marketing and strategic planning.

He has worked at Seminis or affiliated companies since 1992.

Velasco assumes the combined responsibilities of Mark Stowers and Carlos Enrique Rossell, both of whom are leaving the company.

Seminis produces more than 60 species and 8,000 varieties of vegetable and fruit seeds.

* Victoria Chandler has been named director of fund development for Casa Pacifica, a Camarillo-based residential and crisis care center for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

For the last five years, Chandler was executive director of the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation, where she oversaw a 32-member board of directors and the foundation’s financial administration, management, marketing, community relations and fund-raising.

Casa Pacifica provides comprehensive assessment, medical care, education and treatment for more than 350 children each year.

Since it opened in 1994, it has accepted more than 1,500 children.

* Brian Nomi has joined the law firm of Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton as an associate.

Nomi will be a member of the litigation group for the general practice law firm that specializes in business, corporate, real estate and tax and estate planning law.

He received a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and a law degree from the University of Minnesota.

Before joining the firm, he was a captain in the Army’s Judge Advocate General Corps and a law clerk for a federal appeals court judge.

* Donna Farrugia has been named area manager for the Westlake Village office of Robert Half International, a Los Angeles-based staffing service that specializes in accounting, finance and information technology.

She joined the company last year after working for the 3M Corp. and Eastman Kodak.

* Gary Morgan, journalism professor at Oxnard College, has been inducted into the Community College Journalism Hall of Fame.

Morgan has taught at Oxnard College since 1984, and is the group’s only inductee this year.

He is the 15th person inducted into the hall since its inception in 1995.
