Unkindest Cuts Stop With Bill

Justice is on the way with Senate Bill 338, which is a bill of justice for student-athletes in public colleges.

It will make presidents of tax-supported schools treat young men and women and their parents with fairness, respect and courtesy. It will stop the sudden, heartbreaking axing of sports from the lives of young people.

Remember what happened at Cal State Northridge? Four Olympic sports cut with no warning in 1997. At Mission College in 1997, five sports eliminated. Pasadena, L.A. City, Santa Monica, West L.A., Trade Tech and UC Irvine have all suffered cuts without warning.

To stop it, write today to: Gov. Gray Davis, State Capitol, Sacramento, CA, 95814, or fax a letter to (916) 445-2841. Ask Gov. Davis to sign SB 338. Your taxes pay for public colleges.
