Mater Dei in Final of Florida Tournament

Nate Pena had five saves and Matt Fennell scored two goals as Mater Dei shut out Clearwater (Fla.), 5-0, in the semifinals of the Puma International High School boys’ soccer tournament Friday in Tampa, Fla.
Ruben Rosales, Randy Poggio and Juan Gutierrez scored the Monarchs’ other goals, with Mark Thornberry assisting on two. Clearwater is 8-2.
Mater Dei (12-0-1), ranked second in the county, plays Bloomingdale (Fla.) in the final today.
In the semifinals of the Brea Olinda tournament:
Dana Hills 3, Brea Olinda 2--The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the second half, but goals by Stephen Jennings, Forrest Smith and Steven Barnes gave Dana Hills the lead. The Dolphins will meet Woodbridge in today’s final.
Woodbridge 5, West Hills Chaminade 1--The top-ranked Warriors (7-1-2) scored all their goals in the second half, with Brad Hallack assisting on three.
In the quarterfinals of the Magnolia tournament:
Costa Mesa 2, Cerritos 0--Billy Lund and Socrates Cruz scored for the Mustangs (4-3-3), who play Laguna Beach in a semifinal this morning.
