Hard Lesson in France

We hope this letter will save some of your readers the anguish that we just experienced.
My husband and I have just returned home from a wonderful two-week vacation in the south of France. On the way to the Nice airport to return home, we stopped in Aix-en-Provence. Upon returning about 1 1/2 hours later to our rental car, we discovered that our trunk was empty and all our belongings had been stolen. We learned the hard way:
1. Never leave your car unattended with a trunk full of luggage or anything valuable.
2. Never open a full trunk, close it and leave the car. Move the car if you must open the trunk.
3. Do not rely on the police for assistance. We went to four police areas. We were basically ignored and told to go the American Embassy in Marseilles.
