After a Slow Start, Green Finishes Off El Camino Real, 6-2

After giving up a single and home run to the first two batters, Jeff Green of Valencia High held El Camino Real hitless in the Vikings’ 6-2 victory in the San Fernando Valley tournament Thursday at El Camino Real.
Green struck out three and walked none.
Sean McElroy hit his third home run for the Conquistadores (2-1), ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.
Spencer Quayle homered for Valencia (3-0) and Rick Acevas added a two-run single.
In other San Fernando Valley tournament games:
Lancaster 6, Grant 2--Tyler Bain (1-0) pitched a six-hitter with six strikeouts for the Eagles at Grant.
Frank Rosado hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to give the Eagles (4-0) a 6-1 lead.
Monroe 8, Paraclete 4--Dennis King hit two home runs and the Vikings won at Monroe.
John Andrade of Monroe pitched a seven-hitter and struck out eight for Monroe (1-2).
Notre Dame 15, Poly 5--Chris Dickerson hit his fourth and fifth home runs, and Jonathon Brewster had a grand slam for the Knights (1-3) at Notre Dame.
Chaminade 5, Wilson 1--Erik Johnson had three hits and Jason Urquidez allowed four hits and struck out eight in six innings for the Eagles (3-1) at Chaminade.
Highland 7, Kennedy 3--Matt Perris pitched a five-hitter and Jason Kubel hit a solo home run for the Bulldogs (3-0) at Kennedy.
Thousand Oaks 5, San Fernando 4--Travis Rice, a senior catcher, singled home the winning run in the eighth for the Lancers at San Fernando.
Chris Cordeiro struck out 10 in seven innings for the Lancers (3-1).
WESTSIDE TOURNAMENT
Canyon 4, Moorpark 0--Matt Palmer pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts at Moorpark and the Cowboys earned a spot in the Red Division final. The Cowboys (3-1) will play Ventura at 4 p.m. Saturday at Redondo High.
Ventura 8, Palisades 2--Kelly Callanan, Mike Vizzo and Kenny Newville hit consecutive RBI doubles during a four-run sixth for the Cougars (4-0) in a Red Division semifinal at Ventura.
Calabasas 8, St. Bernard 5--Tony Sulser struck out 12 and Jesse Michel had three hits, including a two-run homer for the Coyotes (3-0-1) in a Blue Division semifinal at St. Bernard.
Sulser scattered 11 hits and has struck out 26 in two games.
Hueneme 14, San Pedro 3--Jaime Martinez allowed three hits in four scoreless innings, and had two doubles and two RBIs for the Vikings (1-2) in a Blue Division victory at Hueneme.
Sylmar 4, Culver City 1--Ivan Lopez fanned 13 in a three-hitter for the Spartans (2-2) at Culver City.
EL SEGUNDO TOURNAMENT
Simi Valley 7, Mira Costa 4--Mike Nykoluk (1-0) allowed one hit over the final four innings and the Pioneers scored four runs in the ninth at Mira Costa.
Nykoluk had three hits, including a three-run home run for Simi Valley (3-1).
Agoura 9, Bell Gardens 3--Craig Raimondi hit a two-out three-run home run in a five-run sixth inning for the Chargers at Agoura.
Tyler Stauffer (2-0) struck out six in 5 1/3 innings for Agoura (2-1).
NONLEAGUE
Oxnard 6, Santa Paula 2--Sophomore Alex Merricks struck out six in four innings for the Yellowjackets (1-0) game at Santa Paula (0-1).
