Ear of the Beholder

* I found a letter in my mailbox the other day. It was simply addressed “Imp!” I thought that either someone was calling me names or the leprechauns had arrived early this year until I read the contents: “Regarding Train Horn Sounding in Our Community.”
Long story longer, it was an enlistment to sign a letter to our congressman protesting the sound of train whistles!
I mean, really! This guy is listening for the sound. Try listening to it. OK, so it’s 6 a.m. on a Sunday or midnight on a Friday, whatever. Instead of checking your clock, keep your eyes closed and imagine the Orient Express or far away places and go back to sleep.
I have nothing against the letter or the guy who sent it because I will continue to enjoy the romantic sound of a train whistle and the privilege of living here at the beach.
Just don’t try to do something about the sound of the waves!
