Cervenka Is Near-Perfect, 1-0

Meredith Cervenka pitched a no-hitter, struck out 18, faced one batter over the minimum and scored in the ninth inning to give Crescenta Valley High a 1-0 nonleague softball victory over Burbank at McCambridge Park.
Cervenka (7-0), who lost her perfect game with a two-out walk in the eighth, doubled and scored for the Falcons (7-0) on an errant relay throw.
Burbank is 6-2.
El Camino Real 8, Banning 0--Melissa Coogan used her bat and her arm to give the Conquistadores (8-2-1) a nonleague victory at El Camino Real.
Coogan pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts, hit a home run and drove in five runs.
Chatsworth 13, Garfield 6--Samantha Piznik hit two home runs and drove in six runs for the Chancellors (6-5) in a victory at Garfield (8-5).
Granada Hills 5, Marshall 4--Erin Bennett’s one-out single scored Somer Nugent in the seventh the give the Highlanders in a nonleague victory at Granada Hills.
Christine McKenna had two hits and Priscilla Baca hit a two-run home run for Granada Hills (3-8-1).
St. Bonaventure 2, Channel Islands 0--Annie Marostica (5-1) pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 for the Seraphs (7-1) in a victory at Camino Real Park.
BASEBALL
Newbury Park 5, Moorpark 4--Eric Anderson’s run-scoring single in the 10th inning gave the Panthers a Marmonte League victory at Newbury Park.
The Panthers (5-4, 2-1) tied the score, 4-4, in the seventh on a two-run single by Tyler G. Smith.
Moorpark is 6-2, 1-1.
Royal 13, Agoura 9--Brian Lipman hit a grand slam and the Highlanders (5-3, 1-2) won a Marmonte League game at Agoura (3-5, 0-2).
Lipman finished with three hits and five RBIs.
Antelope Valley 9, Quartz Hill 4--Matt Lopez hit a three-run home run but the Rebels (5-3, 1-1) lost a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.
The Antelopes (4-3, 1-1) built a 5-0 lead and collected 11 hits.
North Hollywood 10, Hollywood 0--Miguel Cabrera and Edgar Robles each had two hits in a Sunset Six League game at North Hollywood that was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.
The Huskies are 4-5, 2-0.
Grant 10, Verdugo Hills 2--Brian Hauser had four RBIs and Felipe Tetelboin hit a solo home run for the Lancers in a Sunset Six victory at Grant.
Larry Brown pitched a four-hitter and struck out five for the Lancers (4-5, 2-0).
Verdugo Hills is 2-2, 0-2.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Agoura 14, Royal 4--Greg McNamee, who usually teams with Dave Cox at No. 1 doubles, swept his sets at No. 2 singles for the Chargers in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.
Cox teamed with Amir Nejad at No. 1 doubles for the Chargers (5-1, 3-1) and took two of three sets.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Pepperdine def. Ohio State, 15-10, 15-8, 15-13--Andre Breuer had 26 kills in 37 attempts and the Waves won at Pepperdine.
Scott Wong had 19 kills and 10 digs for Pepperdine (15-3), ranked No. 2 in the nation.
Chris Fash had 18 kills for Ohio State (14-3), ranked No. 5.
