Meredith Cervenka of Crescenta Valley High made a commitment to play softball for Long Beach State.
Cervenka, The Times’ Valley pitcher of the year last season who was also being recruited by Oklahoma State, Kansas and Mississippi, wanted to stay in California.
The hard-throwing right-hander, who led the Falcons to the Southern Section Division II semifinals in May, had a region-high 370 strikeouts in 208 innings, allowed only one earned run and won 28 of 30 decisions last season.
