Duke Wallops UCLA in Opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —  Alana Beard scored 15 points and No. 5 Duke used a 21-2 first-half run to breeze to an 80-52 victory over UCLA in the Women’s Sports Foundation tournament Friday night.

Georgia Schweitzer added 14 points, and Missy West 12 for the Blue Devils in the season opener for both teams. Michelle Greco led the Bruins with 22 points, including 15 in the first half.

UCLA hit four of its first six shots and trailed only 13-12 after Greco made a three-pointer. But Schweitzer scored seven points to lead the Blue Devils’ run that put them up 34-14.

UCLA missed its first 10 shots in the second half, several of them layups.
