Nature Walk Planned at Conservancy Site

The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy will hold a guided nature walk of its Ilvento Open Space Preserve in Ojai’s east end at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Participants will tour the perimeter of the 80-acre ridgeline property along a 2 1/2-mile trail and see how the preserve’s plants are bouncing back from the 1999 Ranch fire, which burned 80% of the site.
The land, which overlooks the Ojai Valley, was donated to the conservancy three years ago by Santa Barbara cardiologist Joseph Ilvento and his wife, Judy Dean, who planned to live on the site but changed their minds.
The site, off Reeves Road, is surrounded by Los Padres National Forest, and Thatcher and Ojai Valley schools.
Jim Engel, executive director of the nonprofit conservancy, will host the walk and discuss native plants and fire ecology.
The event is free but reservations are requested. For the meeting point and information, call 646-7930.
