Gueringer Resigns at Crespi

Ron Gueringer, football coach at Crespi High the last two seasons, announced his resignation on Thursday.
The Celts were 1-19 under Gueringer, who was forced to play mostly sophomores and juniors after several top players transferred.
“I think Crespi and I both need to go in different directions,” Gueringer said. “It was the best decision for both. I think there’s no doubt next year’s team is going to win some games. They played their butts off this year.”
Troy Thomas, who played on Crespi’s 1986 Southern Section Division I championship team and served as defensive coordinator for the Celts’ 1993 Division I semifinalist team, is a top candidate to replace Gueringer.
Thomas is a graduate assistant at Fresno State and was the defensive coordinator at Westlake last season, when the Warriors won the Division IV championship. Thomas said earlier this week he would apply for the position if it opened.
Another possible candidate is Lance Fauria, a former Crespi tight end who is coach at Santa Maria St. Joseph.
