Carson Survives Sloppy Performance
Instead of a stellar battle between two traditional City Section powers, Carson and Dorsey took turns trying to give away Thursday night’s City Championship first-round playoff game.
Defending-champion Carson survived four turnovers and advanced with a 3-0 victory at Veterans Stadium.
Eder Gonzalez provided the only points by kicking a 23-yard field goal with 6:33 left in the second quarter.
Dorsey committed four turnovers and missed on several chances inside Colt territory.
Dorsey’s best opportunity came early in the fourth quarter. After pass interference and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, the Dons (7-4) had first and goal at the Carson seven.
A holding penalty pushed the Dons back to the 23. Fullback Jermaine Moore tried an option pass but the Colts’ Marcosus LeBlanc intercepted the ball in the end zone and returned it to the 18.
Carson running back James Robinson rushed for 148 yards in 23 carries for Carson (8-3).
